1st Teddy Bear [Text...?]

[A New Feather is currently hiding out in an old hollowed out log in the forest, cold and very upset. After all, it's not everyday that someone ends up in some strange new place! And with the angel wings on her back, she can't help but wonder what the heck just happened. After a very tiring hike through a very big forest (to a five-year-old, at least), she'd decided to stop and, uh, wait for help. Because people would definitely come for her! And she shouldn't be afraid while she waited, because she was a big girl.

Besides, mama says when you're upset or worried, just do what you really enjoy doing... A-and she did have a cool new book...

She probably wouldn't, at that. [He can give her that much.] But I doubt she'd be happy that you're spending all this time outside.

[Why is he trying to reason with a small child?]

[She finally crawls out of the log. Her hairs ruffled and her white gown is all a-mess, but she seems okay. A little cold and confused.]

Well—doesn't your mama wonder where you are, too?

[Twitch. He's not a kid, damn it. But he's also not going to snap at a child.]

I doubt it. She's not here.

[Doesn't even know who she is, at that.]

[Have a frowny face.]

Aaaw, I'm sorry, misder.

When we find my mama, we'll make some pie! That always makes me happy.

What's your favorite type of pie? Mine's cherry.

[Blink, blink. What?]

I think you might be able to find cherry pie in the bakery, or maybe the grocery store. [Totally skipping that question. There's no such thing as watermelon pie, unfortunately.]

[THIS TALK OF PIES EXCITES HER.]

There's a bakery?! Is there lots of rows of pies and doughnuts and cake??

[Leaning back a little, because over-excitement was always a little strange.]

There's a bakery. I'm not in there much, but I guess they'd have to have a lot of stuff.

Waaaa, I can ask my mama for some money and we can go buy some tasty stuff!

You don't need money.

[Er, that may have been the wrong thing to tell a child. How to backpedal...]

But you should probably still ask someone about it.

[And so Elicia becomes a thief when she grows up—]

[DASHING OUT THAT LOGIC, MISTER.]

[Damn it, child.] Then I can just wait around until someone shows up. [He makes himself a little more comfortable on the ground.] That'll work.

[She looks at him for a moment, then twiddles her fingers.]

You don't have to stay because of me, mister... I don't wanna cause anyone trouble...

[He gives her a sidelong glance and shrugs.]

Wasn't doing anything pressing.

Oh.

What's 'pressing' mean?

[Just when he thought he was going to sit in silence... He blinks at her a few times.]
