1st Teddy Bear [Text...?]

[A New Feather is currently hiding out in an old hollowed out log in the forest, cold and very upset. After all, it's not everyday that someone ends up in some strange new place! And with the angel wings on her back, she can't help but wonder what the heck just happened. After a very tiring hike through a very big forest (to a five-year-old, at least), she'd decided to stop and, uh, wait for help. Because people would definitely come for her! And she shouldn't be afraid while she waited, because she was a big girl.

Besides, mama says when you're upset or worried, just do what you really enjoy doing... A-and she did have a cool new book...

If you happen to look in yours, you may notice some very wonderful artwork spamming your pages, looking a little something like this:]

[That actually gets a smile out of him, because it's the basic gist of it. He shakes his head to confirm that. Smart girl, this one.]

[A... teeny smile back.]

B-but how am I gonna know your name?

[...An excellent question. If Jet were here, he'd just have him introduce him, but he's not.

All right, exceptions can be made. Hopefully she won't pester him to talk too much though.]

It's Longshot.

Well, Mr. Longshot, I'm Elicia. I just turned 5!

Do you live in the forest??

[He waves at the introduction and nods his head to the question, then takes a few steps forward to sit by the tree. Aha - she does look more or less okay. Probably cold though.]

[Indeed, she's just a little ruffled up; her white dress/gown is pretty much ruined. But other than a scrape or two prior to meeting you, she seems okay...]

[Except cold was certainly right! Not to mention, some rain was about to come a-fallin' down overhead.]

But don't you get lonely in the forest?

[He shakes his head - not really. He's betting you would though.

And sure enough, in another second there's the plip-plop of rain falling down to the ground. Glancing up at the sky, he sighs and takes off his hat before offering it to her.]

There's a village here too, you know. Houses. Maybe that'd be a better place for you to go.

[She puts the hat on, but hugs herself shivering; her mother would always supply her with plenty to keep warm! This Luceti place is just awful. Nothing else could go anymore wrong in the future!]

A-a village? I can go there!

[She does a determined motion with her fist--ain't no rain or dark scary forest going to bring her down; mama always said try your hardest, after all.]

Okay!!

If you point I can just run there really fast!

[Pfft. Amused archer is amused.]

It's a pretty big forest. How about I come with you?

All right!

[And she's already on her feet and ~~skipping~~ running back toward the log. Because you left your stuff there and we need to get it~!]

[Very smart girl. He climbs back to his feet and follows her, reaching down to pull his bow and quiver out of the log. Making sure she's paying attention, he points to the direction they need to go before moving that way.]

[She's excited to not be alone anymore, as demonstrated by leaping on and walking across that old log. The direction he points is soon on her radar and she follows beside him with his hat on.]

So you use those for shooting bad guys, right?

[She's reminding him of some of the younger kids he used to hang around with when he was a Freedom Fighter. Longshot smirks a little and nods.]

Wow, that's so cool! I wanna fight bad guys when I get older, too. 'Cause that's what papa did--and he helped a lot of people.

[Sparkly eyes is a-go!]

Will you should me how to shoot arrows when I'm big?!

[She's very aware of the 'you're too young' response, so the last two words were always attached to her more extravagant requests.]

[SO MUCH LIKE THE YOUNGER KIDS. Why so cute?

He scracthes the back of his neck nervously for a second. Well, she won't be old enough for a few years yet, and either one of them could be gone before that time. If not, she may have lost interest by that point. No harm done here. After another second he nods.]

Then you can teach me when I'm this many?! That's pretty old!

[And she holds up... seven whole fingers! Come on, Longshot, that's a pretty good deal, right? Two years is a long, long wait, and her perception of time is sad!]

[Well considering how young he was... Hrrrm.

Okay, compromise. He holds up eight fingers.]

[She pauses for a moment. Considers this bargain.]

[And then holds up seven fingers and bends the eighth, one eye shut and tongue out in concentration. Counting was hard work. :(]

[You drive a hard bargain, kiddo. All right, fine. He sighs, and gives her a thumbs up.

He is so grateful Jet isn't here after all. He'd probably tell him he's going soft.]

[Heck yeah, this is the best first day in a creepy forest ever. She smiles wide and continues on quietly for a little bit, but she's too excited for her own good.]

If I learn really fast, can I have an umbrella hat, too?

[He doesn't mind it at all, though it does take him a second to figure out what she means by umbrella hat. Longshot wipes some of the rain out of his face and nods again.

Honestly, who wouldn't want such an awesome hat?]

[She will be very distraught if they make her take it off at school.]

[Speaking of rain—]

Hu—CHU~!

[That was the squeaky sneeze of a little kid.]

It must be hard living out here! 'Cause it's always so cold and there's no lights when it's dark! Isn't it scary??

[He shakes his head. Then again, he grew up in a forest.] It's not always cold or scary.

[It just is right now. Hrrm. He takes off the little cape he has around his shoulders and pauses long enough to give it to her. It's not very wet just yet, so hopefully it'll provide a little warmth for her.]

[She stops and looks at the cape, and then back to Longshot.]

But you'll get cold!
